New Logo and Business Cards: My Own Little Competition. Any budding designers out there?

New Logo and Business Cards: My Own Little Competition. Any budding designers out there?

Architectural Select is going through some significant changes at the minute.

Until recently, we specialised in Architecture and Construction and have now moved back into IT, Financial and the other side of Architecture. Namely Enterprise Architecture, Strategy, Trends, Directions, Finance, Development, things like Energy Trading, Commodities and things in that area.

I quite like the name, but it definitely could do with a bit of a facelift and redesign.

So here’s what I’m proposing:

I’m looking for young entrepreneurial designers to come up with some good ideas for some business cards and maybe a new logo for Architectural Select. I’ll have the best one printed up and I’m sure it will be seen by some influential people.

I’m not going to pay for the design or your time, but I will have you clearly mentioned on the back of the card with either your website/name/e-mail etc. and maybe something else will come of it. There’s obviously quite a lot of work out there for budding brand designers and specialists and, to be honest, some of the stuff I’ve recently seen in the press and online hasn’t been too brilliant.

It’ll be good to hear from you and if you think this might be of interest to someone you know, please, by all means pass it on.

Companies fail to on-board new staff

Only 37% of staff provide an on-boarding programme for new staff. This is despite nearly three quarters (71%) of staff said they would like it, according to research by Enterprise Rent-A-Car.

The research, which questioned 1,500 businesses, found 78% of staff who had been on-boarded found the process useful, with a third saying it reinforced their decision to join that company.

Donna Miller, European HR director at Enterprise Rent-A-Car, said: “These findings reinforce how on-boarding programmes are an essential engagement tool for employers, particularly in the current economic climate.”

Among those that do have on-boarding, half of staff said it made them feel at ease with their new surroundings and enabled them to get up to speed more quickly. A quarter said they felt more valued.

The survey found three-quarters of companies had no level of contact with their employer between accepting a job offer and starting their new role.

So here I am on an absolutely beautiful sunny Thursday looking out the window at people enjoying the rays. I’m trying to find a Russian Architect a role anywhere in the UK. Shouldn’t be too hard as the guy is really good with a very impressive CV and portfolio of work. His English is fantastic and he’s worked on the reconstruction of the existing Mariinsky Theatre and the Gazprom Tower in St. Petersburg, both incredible buildings, and is willing to relocate anywhere in the UK.

Has Architecture taken such a hammering that someone who can potentially run rings around most others in the design and software department is having such a hard time finding work? We shall have to see. I’d want him working on my team.
